Marketing strategy
TikTok Shop still is not in Kenya. Sell anyway.

If you have searched "how to open TikTok Shop in Kenya", you have probably found the same answer everyone else has: you cannot, yet. As of August 2026, TikTok Shop let local sellers sell in 21 markets and none of them was in Africa, according to a seller guide by Duka.bio, and TikTok has not announced a date for Kenya. WeeTracker reported that TikTok's Creator Rewards Program, which pays creators directly for views, is not available anywhere in Sub-Saharan Africa, even as its brand business in Kenya grows. The same report cited a TikTok campaign that helped the e-commerce platform Kilimall generate more than 152,000 purchases.
Kenyan businesses have not waited. They are selling through TikTok anyway, using a model that fits how Kenyans already buy.
The Kenyan TikTok funnel
- Video on TikTok gets attention: a product in use, a transformation, a funny skit, a live session.
- A link or number moves the viewer to WhatsApp, or to a simple order page.
- A conversation answers questions about size, colour, price and delivery.
- M-Pesa closes the sale.
- Delivery or pickup completes it.
It is slower than a one-tap checkout. It also builds a relationship, and repeat customers, that an in-app shop might not.
Content that sells on TikTok
- Show the product in real life, in settings your customers recognise
- Hook in the first second: movement, a question, a surprising before-and-after
- Use trends carefully: sounds and formats that fit your brand, not every trend
- Go live: many Kenyan sellers do well with TikTok Live, showing products and answering questions in real time
- Post consistently: the algorithm rewards regular posting
Make more content, faster
The biggest constraint for most sellers is producing enough video. With Tari Studio, you describe the clip in plain words, attach photos of your actual products, and get a vertical video back, with the length and credit cost on a quote first. The AK2 model's bold, music-led style suits TikTok. How the Studio works.
You can publish directly to TikTok from the Studio, schedule posts, and add a tracked WhatsApp link so every conversation arrives in your shared inbox tagged with the post that brought it. Publishing to social media.
Creators without TikTok payouts
Because creator rewards are not available here, Kenyan creators earn mostly from brand deals. That makes them open to partnerships with businesses of every size. Micro-creators beat celebrities.
When TikTok Shop arrives
When TikTok Shop does open in Kenya, sellers who have already built an audience, a content habit and a reputation for fast, honest service will be ready on day one. Start now.
Running a TikTok Live sale
Live selling works well for Kenyan sellers when it is organised:
- announce the time a day before, in a short clip
- number every item, so buyers can say "I want number 7"
- have a second person answering WhatsApp and confirming payments while you present
- repeat the payment steps clearly and often
- be honest about condition and size; live viewers ask, and screenshots last
After the live session, post the best moments as short clips for people who missed it.
